Book Spotlight: The Alien That Ate My Socks

Hold on to your socks!

If you think you've seen that name before, you're not mistaken. Brandon Dorman is the illustrator for another Brandon...Brandon Mull of Fablehaven fame. This time, Dorman has taken off his illustrator hat and put on his author hat.

Well, actually, he's put them both on at the same time. Not only did he write the story, but he filled it with his signature whimsical illustrations that add a great flavor to the story. The story itself follows a trio of mischievous brothers who encounter the purple, sock-eating alien you see on the cover. Much goofiness and hilarity ensue.

Though I could personally tell that this was his first outing as a writer, I enjoyed the story and I think children will as well. It feels like the story is more targeted for middle grade boys, with lots of pranks, wise cracking, comic action, and silly inside jokes. The illustrations are definiately the highlight of this volume, which makes sense, as that has been his main focus up to this point. It also says that this is the first in the series, so there's plenty of room to grow.
